New Documents added to website!

"For Your Information":
I've received a number of questions from fellow genealogists concerning where these documents came from, I'll give you what I know and also what I believe to have happened. Over ten years ago I started researching my Kohler line with my grandparents. They live in a small town in PA called Port Royal, where many of it's residents are related to some extent making research interesting. My grandparents had mentioned that there was a large trunk full of old family papers, but they didn't know exactly what was in there. I was very surprised when I went to visit at the shear volume and age of the materials. I took a stack home and that is where it all started. My guess is that documents were kept, for whatever reason, very early on as these started in the 1750's. As time went on, more documents were added to the pile as "important papers". I have to assume that certain members of the family would have had more active roles in society and were tasked with storing not only personal items, but public records as well. My grandfather's grandfather was John A. Kohler, a prominent citizen and one time associate judge, another family member was George W. Jacobs, a justice of the peace. As John Kohler was married to Anna Marie Jacobs, the Rice/Hench/Hartman connections can be made through her. G. W. Jacobs ‎(many documents with his name, George Washington Jacobs)‎ was her uncle. The trunk, in which the papers were stored, has John A. Kohler's name written in it, perhaps coincidence or for a good reason. There are still hundreds of documents left for me to work with that are not in my possession yet, so they will be added as I receive them. I will hopefully receive a large scanner soon, so many of the larger documents will be available as scanned images and will be updated here on this site.

My goal in all this was to let people see a quality scan of a document that perhaps their ancestor had created with their own hand and maybe even signed. Some of these snapshots of daily life are very interesting and I have added unique information to my family history that would not have been available from any other resource. If you have any questions, please email me. I unfortunately do not have any research on most of these individuals outside of my family so I can't provide information outside of what is here. For example, if a document pertains to a John Smith in 1863, I have no idea who this person is or any info on parents/children.
